Postgraduates receive €1000 career boost
13 May 2008
The coming two years, postgraduates at Tilburg University will receive € 1000 per year to spend on activities to give their careers a boost. This is intended to improve the vulnerable position of these young scientists. The proposal will be discussed at the University Labour Representation Board (Lokaal Overleg) on Thursday 24 April.
This budget proposal complies with the national collective labour
agreement (CAO) aimed at improving the position of young researchers -
who often go from one temporary contract to another. To increase their
chances of getting permanent jobs, the thirty Tilburg postgraduates
will each receive a budget of €1000 in 2008 and 2009 to spend on
didactical training courses, English-language courses, and other
activities to boost their careers. The Tilburg University Staff
Development Service (CML) will probably develop a '40-minus' career
training course aimed specially at this group.
The number of postgraduates at Tilburg University has decreased
significantly because so-called tenure trackers often take their places.
